Hetherington Engineering has been involved in the design and repair of landslides ranging from small surficial slope failures requiring localized recompaction with and without soil reinforcement (commonly referred to as geogrid) as well as the repair of large ancient landslides that have either damaged or threatened to damage existing structures. Repairs to larger landslides have included mass grading techniques such as removal and replacement of the landslide mass with compacted fill, buttressing of the landslide mass, mechanical stabilization of the landslide mass utilizing combinations of drilled piers, tiebacks and grade beams and dewatering of the landslide mass to reduce driving forces.
